Capsule Geology

The Cathy J occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1380 metres on a northwest-facing slope, near Tanswanket Creek and approximately 3 kilometres southeast of Rainbow Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by orthogneiss metamorphic rocks of the Dean River Metamorphic Belt, of unknown age, and undivided volcanic rocks of the Lower to Middle Jurassic Hazelton Group. The previous units are overlain by basaltic volcanic rocks of the Miocene to Pleistocene Chilcotin Group.

Locally the area is underlain by diorite, granodiorite, porphyritic quartz monzonite and chlorite schist. Sulphide mineralization is reported to include pyrite, chalcopyrite, bornite and possible chalcocite.

In 1987, rock chip samples from quartz float and quartz-schist outcrops yielded values up to 2.10 per cent copper, 0.90 per cent lead, 120 grams per tonne silver and 1.60 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 16268).

In 1988, rock samples (R88132 and R88307) yielded values up to 1.70 per cent copper, 0.14 per cent zinc, 0.27 per cent lead, 42 grams per tonne silver and 1.78 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 17828).

Work History

In 1987 and 1988, Dave Rozek completed programs of prospecting and geochemical (rock, silt and soil) sampling on the area as the Cathy J 1-2 claims.
